Tuesday, February 16, 2016

I'm currently obsessed with Manuka Honey, the super food from New Zealand is very popular and with good reason. Manuka Honey is a mono-flower meaning that it is collected from the nectar of a single species of flower. This being the Manuka tree or bush [tea tree]. Manuka Honey has been used for hundreds of years to treat wounds and infections due to its antibacterial properties . However this is a beauty blog so we are going to talk about the amazing benefits Manuka Honey has on skin.

You will find Mnauka Honey in many beauty products as one of the active ingredients, it's become a kind of buzz word. But it's definitely a buzz world we should be paying attention to the main uses of Manuka Honey for skin is for preventing and clearing acne as well as anti ageing.

Manuka honey is somewhat of a wonder cure  for blemished skin because of its natural antibacterial properties. It is also  anti-inflammatory, so it soothes inflamed skin while healing spots. It also helps balance the skin’s pH [A scale that measures Hydrogen concentration a balanced pH results in awesome skin!] and contains amino acids [ they are key when repairing skin] which gets rid of dead skin which helps to keep your pores clean and you skin clear.

High levels of Amino Acids found in Manuka Honey make it a great anti ageing ingredient. Amino Acids are the building blocks of collagen which helps keeps skin looking youthful. Manuka Honey  also helps skin to retain moistures it's a natural humectant [draws in water]  and moisture improves our skins elasticity

Mnauka Honey is one of the super foods that benefit our skin in it's natural form, ingesting it is awesome obviously but this is an ingredient that you can use straight from the jar on your face!

"Manuka honey is considered an "active" honey. All honey has hydrogen peroxide in it, which is created by enzymes that bees manufacture along with the sugars to turn into honey; all honey also contains methylglyoxyl, a bactericidal compound, but in very low concentrations. The magic of manuka honey is that the bees pass on the additional antifungal and antibiotic properties of the tea tree into their already nice 'n' antibacterial honey, creating more active hydrogen peroxide and methylglyoxyl" source
You can use Manuka Honey when you see a blemish appear just dab and little and the spot will be gone is a few days. Manuka honey makes a great cleanser or mask  and it's effective as a brightening treatment to clear acne scaring or dark spots,

Stay tuned for further blogging on the miracle that is Manuka Honey.
